Even with those players missing for the Spurs the Wolves were massive underdogs, given the form of some players of late and the fact that four players out of our starting five still languish on the sidelines ( but I see you Bud and it warms my heart ).
So it was with great pessimism that I tuned in, today, to last night's offering.
I must admit, when you look at how the Wolves ave struggled recently I honestly thought they would have trouble getting around Boris Diaw's massive backside....but WOW!!!!
I don't usually do this....let's look at some of the numbers.....and the players who contributed most.
Ricky Rubio - TRIPLE DOUBLE 21pts/13rbds/12asst....throw in a block for good measure. Simply outrageous last night...the double behind the back dribble and the lefty finish is my highlight of the year. Ricky has made the last couple of months bearable. This kid is the beating heart of the team. (+/-... +23)
JJ Barea - 5-7 from downtown....the Wolves shot a heady 60% from behind the long arc..the barrage being initiated by an early Luke Ridnour conversion but JJ quickly ramped up the action and was shooting the lights out....including a cheeky step-back three.....you knew it was going to be our night when the 3s started to fall. (+/-...+21)
Alexey Shved - FGM-A 6-8...3PM-A 3-4....I for one thought the Dude looked completely gassed in the last game against Dallas. He came back with a bang in this one. He still leaves his feet too often whilst passing but his shot was falling and the confidence bled up from the court into his legs. Great to see him bounce back in this way....7 assists also....big night. (+/-...+24)
Dante Cunningham - (+/-...+31)...Dante Cunningham is the kind of guy you want on your team because he "does shit".....his shot wasn't falling....he didn't rebound a heck of a lot....but he was disruptive, he knows how to block out and he allows others to play.
This is the kind of win that seems to make everything worthwhile.
Indiana will be an extremely tough shift.....back to earth.
