We got a Whole Lotta Pek last night...instead of the more obvious Whole Lotta Love.
Anthony Effing Morrow!!!!....I mean, Wow! 33 mins (due to foul trouble), 13-20, 8-11, 8-8....this guy can shoot the three ball and make four point plays into the bargain....he was unconscious.....42 big points.....at one point I was getting serious Dorrell Wright flash-backs!...scary!
...and the Twolves still won!
This was another one of those games that could, quite easily, have gone down the chute. The Nets were pressing and pressing hard but the Twolves have discovered how to close out games against teams that are deemed to be, how should we put this?......ehm?....struggling? Mainly because of Rick Adelman, Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio.
Still let us not waste any time in getting straight to the main story of the evening...
Nikola Pekovic.
Pek started the evening on the bench...which he's okay with because that's the kind of good team-mate he is...he watch frustratedly as Darko minced around in the paint like a dopey giraffe....I mean, I will stick my neck out for Darko occasionally, I think the guy can play...but there is something WRONG here.
Is he injured?.......Is he ill?........Is he just unfit?......Is he just dis-engaged?.....Will we ever know?
I caught sight of Pek on the bench when Darko ambled towards the paint for one of his "dainty" finger-rolls...which of course missed.....Pek was trying to catch Darko's eye and was giving him the "JUST SLAM THE F*&^ING THING!!!" gesture (see picture opposite). It's clear that Pek knows what needs to be done as he is coming in night after night and being "big" for us...he is starter and back-up.
I know it's early and I know that things could go pear-shaped at any juncture but Nikola Pekovic looks like he's getting it all together....is this the grotesque, turn-over machine of a player we saw last season....is this the guy who, even at the start of this season, looked like he didn't understand the three second rule and couldn't get his feet to co-ordinate. His transformation has been nothing short of remarkable and (unlike some of his more illustrious colleagues) I can see him maintaining a good standard, maybe not as high as last night, but he will contribute something good every time he is on the floor.....confidence is a wonderful thing......27/11 for the big guy.
Adelman is still looking for the right combinations...it could take a while......I'm slightly non-plussed today by 28.33 minutes for Wes Johnson who, but for a purple patch in the 3rd Q, was hellish....again. Also, I thought Luke Ridnour got way too much time. I'm wondering what it was that he was doing..or stopping from happening that merited him 32.36? Martell Webster 3.13? We are led to believe that Michael Beasley was sulking and that is why he only got 16.10..he was pulled out the action pretty sharpish in the 4th never to grace the court again. Anthony Randolph wasn't there at all...don't know his story?
More questions than answers and still a hairs breadth from 0.500....mark it a "W".
